We Tested the Most-Hyped Silk Pillowcases: Here Is What Won

A silk pillowcase has become the unofficial uniform of every beauty editor — and for good reason. Mulberry silk is gentler on hair than cotton, helps reduce sleep creases on the face and stays cool through the night.

We tested six of the most-talked-about silk pillowcases for four weeks each, evaluating them on weight (momme), construction, washability, price and how they actually felt after thirty nights of real-world use.

The winner on overall value was a 22-momme mulberry option with hidden zipper closure and reinforced seams. It washed beautifully on a delicate cycle, did not pill and cost roughly half of the luxury contenders.

If money is no object, a 25-momme silk pillowcase from a heritage French house was the most luxurious to sleep on, with a noticeably cooler hand-feel — but the price-to-performance ratio is hard to justify for most readers.

Skip anything under 19 momme. Lower-weight silks are essentially cosmetic, will not last more than a season of regular washing and offer little of the friction-reducing benefit you are paying for.
